Wine for the weekend
If you, like us, enjoy a great Riesling, you’re going to be super excited about the Riesling Barrique 2014 from Groote Post. Gorgeous notes of honey and ginger, with just a touch of flint and oiliness on the palate, it has a rich and lingering aftertaste from partial wooding in Acacia barrels.
Alongside comes the 2016 vintage of Groot Post’s unwooded Riesling … slightly sweeter, with lovely rose petal, grapefruit and pineapple aromas and an exotic palate full of spice and ginger.
These wines are amazingly versatile food-friendly wines … try them with mild curry, Thai and Vietnamese dishes, roast duck and port. We also fancy a glass with dessert – it’s fabulous with fruit tarts, pecan nut pie and a plate of cheeses.
The Barrique is R150 and is only available from the farm or to buy online (online at www.grootepost.com); the Riesling 2016 costs around R91 and you’ll find it at your local bottlestore
