The road to Sorbet

The road to Sorbet

The journey of two adventurous mothers who met each other purely by chance and ended up owning two branches of the much sought after Sorbet brand together

Debbie Arnot and Robyn Stott have known each other for just over a decade, they are not just good friends, but also business partners. They own a Sorbet franchise in Pietermaritzburg as well as Waterfall.
It was fate that brought them together. Their boys attended Grade 1 together, and by chance the two moms joined the same book club and with seeing each other once a month at book club meetings, they decided to enter into business together. Their new business venture seemed to tie them together in new ways. “I must say, we pretty much stopped exchanging books at book club, but the gatherings are still a highlight of the month for us”, laughs Debbie. Sorbet was never actually a plan that the two ladies had spoken about or dreamt of.
“We are both mothers and we often used to share our feelings and thoughts about the need for some safe entertainment for kids, we thought about starting some sort of game hall just to get them active and socializing while doing something they can enjoy, but despite our best efforts, that plan fell through. We were both prepared to run a business and we were ready to take on an adventure when the opportunity arose to open a Sorbet franchise at Liberty Midlands Mall and we just dove in and took a chance with it”, says Robyn. Debbie is an attorney and conveyancer by profession, while Robyn has worked mainly in sales even though she boasts a BCom, Business Finance as well as a BA, Psychology. They both agree that even though they are no longer practicing in their respective fields that Sorbet has been a new welcomed challenge and that it has been wonderful to be involved in a brand that is driven by passion and is successful. While they both live busy lives in terms of school runs for their kids and also being amazing wives, when asked what they found to be the recipe to their success in business, they didn’t even hesitate to answer. “Debbie and I feel that owner involvement and being hands on with the business on a daily basis really has kept our ship sailing”, says Robyn. Debbie backs this up by saying that while they both have their different roles to play in the running of their stores, they divide the responsibility between the two of them to ensure that either one of them is in each store on a daily basis. “We have another store in Watercrest Mall so we share the travel between us. Robyn is extremely hands on with patrons and networking in the branches, while I am more involved in the accounting and HR side of the business.”

Debbie and Robyn talk about their favourite pamper treats and products, as well as beauty treatments and new products available at the salon.

We took a few minutes to find out from the ladies why they feel Sorbet should be your immediate go to when thinking beauty and this is what they had to say:
What is your favourite treatment when you have a chance to spoil yourself in branch:
Debbie : I love sneaking in a Gelish Power Pedi with foot filing, exfoliation and massage. I love that I get to keep working on my laptop while the ladies do this treatment.
When it comes to skincare, what is your go to product?
Debbie: The Dermalogica Multi Active Toner or Hydro Mist to keep the skin constantly hydrated.
Robyn : Definitely the Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Recovery Mask
Are there any new treatments or products available in store that just have to be tried:
Debbie : We are now stocking the NEW Biolumin C Serum from Dermalogica which has advanced bio-technology to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is really an excellent product to try since we are in spring.
Robyn : The NEW Sound Sleep Cocoon skin repair serum. This product repairs daytime damage while accelerating rejuvenation over night.
One product every woman should keep in her handbag:
Robyn : I have 2… Multivitamin Hand and Nail Cream and the Renewal Lip Complex, both from Dermalogica.
Any other tips for our readers:
Debbie : I think it is important for everyone to know that we offer services for both male and female. We are not just a nail bar, we offer skin mapping, facials, peels, waxing, threading, massages, a range of manicures and pedicures, and a range of nail offerings in terms of gel, acrylic, tips, general overlays and we also retail many products across all the brands that we carry including Rapid Lash, Rapid Hair and Brow & Eyes. Sorbet has an amazing new affordable range of dry bar products featuring shampoos, conditioners, dry shampoos and hair masks, as well as their men’s range and polishes.
